This book is about how to make change. Senator Bernie Sanders has shown that change is possible. Even though he didn’t win the nomination for president, his participation on the process made a huge difference. My book explains that even at the local level, just by engaging in the process, you make a difference. Your issue may not be resolved the way you want on the first try. But your efforts will bring attention to the situation, you will educate staff and elected officials, and in time, you may find movement in the direction you want. If staff or elected officials change and if outreach increases the visibility of the issue in the community, you may see progress even if you don’t get your way immediately. Hang in there. Keep trying. Government moves slowly, but it does move.
